I was looking at the video for GMTK's new game jam, and the main theme was "Out of control". This gave me an idea of a game concept. Unfortunately I specialise in art, so there's no way for me to create it.
The game is called "Character arc", based on what letters and numbers are called in posts, and also how most character arcs come from conflict. This is a war game mixed with scrabble
*Prototype
This is where the game takes place: a keyboard. Your first piece is one of the letters which you can pick on your first turn. You end your turn with enter if you're playing turn based, or with your number if playing in battle royale. You can play with up to 9 other people in both modes, but the real time mode only works on separate computers.
*Turn 1 is Yellow, then Pink
On your second turn, that's when the game starts. Like most war games, your main objective is to grow and overtake your enemies. But this one is slightly different.
*Turn 2. Yellow types in "WERE" and Pink types in "HUN"
Words can be created by typing in letters in or around the team's colour, even if they are part of other teams. These words still have to be real. You can type words you used or with used letters, but this can't be used much to your advantage, as this game is not based on a high score.
*Turn X. All spaces are covered by either Yellow or Pink. Pretend I wrote all the letters in
Although H, Pink's first piece, has been taken over by Yellow, the game doesn't end there. The game only ends when one colour remains.
*Endgame. Yellow is the only colour left.
When making a word, you can press backspace to remove a letter from your word. Unfortunately, there's only one backspace button for a keyboard, so that's why the battle royale mode requires separate computers.
Speaking of which, the battle royals mode starts when everyone has picked a letter to start on. The number they can use for an enter key is based on their position(Player 1 has 1, Player 2 has 2 etc.). From there, a countdown begins, and at the end of it, the game starts.
The rules are the exact same in the battle royale mode apart from the fact that there aren't any turns, so the game is based on speed and reaction time, instead of ingenuity and strategy
