It's the second time I'm doing a recap, but I unfortunately have less to show this year. I'm going to update this post in layers so that it doesn't refresh and remove all my progress. I'll update in the following hours.
ART COLLABS
Starting off the year, I joined the Newgrounds Office Depths collab. I was excited to join after seeing the Hex collab last year, but I was insecure about if people would like my submission. Regardless, I still posted it and people loved it. I think in the future, I need to remember the "two cakes" philosophy when it comes to collabs.
I also joined the Mewgrounds collab. I felt more confident in my art, but I had to make a few changes to the design before I felt right about it(the face used to be a blistering red before I recoloured it into a blue with purple boils)
After an infamous collab came out and was frontpaged, despite its poor quality. I was more wary about joining collabs made by inexperienced people or nobodies. You could call me Darkwing the way I was hating on minors.
I also made some art for the & collab. Given that one of the PICOCAD files are missing, I'd consider this my last work using this program. Additionally, I don't know if the collab is on pause or dead, but the & collab hasn't come out despite the many months in development.
But the year was rounded off well with the Homer collab. I was allowed up to 10 Homers, so I tried experimenting and produced two Homers in two completely different styles and programs.
200 FANS
I hit another milestone this year. I didn't think it'd come so fast, especially after the first 6 years were so slow in terms of my development.
SHITTOK
It was the first original animation I've made, as well as working with a voice actor(@ImDennisMenace).
I kinda lied about the VA in Mollusk Moon. I got him, but Gavmcool was the main guy doing voice direction.
Despite the "script", Dennis was really cooperative and efficient, as well as patient during the 7 and a half months I was on-and-off animating. I'd love to do more stuff with him in the future.
Even after the animation, I've been able to ask him questions about voice acting. I've grown an interest in voice actors, but you aren't hearing me voice act anytime soon.
BOSS CLUB
...nothing's happened.
If you ask @Gavmcool (he has his own recap which goes into detail), he'd say that there were many projects, but most of them wouldn't go too far.
Just like last year, I had my own side-project as well. it was supposed to be a rhythm horror game, where you moved between a rhythmic breathing phase(think of the one heartbeat mini game in DOORS) and a button-mashing phase where you build up a meter.
It'd give the vibes of Hide and Seek Tag but if it were a rhythm game. But most of Boss Club were either too busy or disinterested at the time, and this project was not something I could do on my own.
But Lemon was different...
It was in progress for a few months, and Gavmcool was really locked in for it. I was content with it being a clicker game, but the scope creep came in and it became much more than a meme. Too bad it was shelved, but that's how scope creep works: You have so many ideas you want to add without considering how much you'd need to do for that to work.
DRAWING TABLET
A few months back, I finally bought a drawing tablet. It's a beginner tablet, but it has a screen. I was able to knock the price down from £200 to less than £100 and get a slightly used one, but it's good as new.
Unfortunately, I've found it difficult transferring my knowledge of art into different programs, especially given the different UI compared to something like Flipaclip. I couldn't even use Krita when I started, which I was hoping to transition to. I'm hoping that in the future I become more comfortable using it, because it lies in storage most of the time, and it's still an expensive purchase.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Not that much happened this year(in terms of projects, I mean), and I'm kind of disappointed by that. I even missed a few collabs which turned out great. I'm hoping that next year will be better.
THE FUTURE
That animation collab I mentioned last year is still in progress. It might come out in Q1 2025, but I'm not sure.
But there's another animation collab coming soon which I feel more optimistic about. It's on the same level as the Dreamcast collab or Smash collab, so I feel lucky getting into it. I'm already at the animation phase.
